I was wondering while reading Anushri´s development and Manual, is there an easy way to visualize the available Drum patterns contained in this XY Drum map/grid? If I understand properly, there would be 3 XY maps one for each Drum sound right?

I am aiming to better familiarize myself with what´s available instead of aimlessly wondering (which is wonderful in it´s own, meditative way) while using Anushri´s drum section.

Heavy to get it work with +/- 5V power supply and also the log converter was not so easy to build.
But now it sees that it works.
Specs from my prototype.
25 Hz up to 16 KHZ , 0,025 V pro octave
Power supply +/-5 V
Maybe i made a PCB for this.

Eurorack module testing tool (DIY)

I had to face two problems during the development of the modules:

How to power and test them during development? A bench-top supply and signal generators? Too big and overkill. My rack loaded with precious stuff? No way I would let a scope probe shorting two pins impact them!

What kind of setup to use for factory testing? A Doepfer mini case loaded with LFO/signal generators? Too expensive, and hard to operate.

I decided to find a DIY solution, and designed the following box.

It serves the following purposes:

+/-12V and +5V power supply with euro connector.

4 signal generation channels dedicated to clocks (tempo, resolution, pulse width); gates (period, pulse duration); CV (several waveforms, sequences stepping through 1V/Oct octaves or scales); and audio (fixed note/frequency tone generator with various waveshapes).

2 signal acquisition channels, one is audio with frequency and note interval measurement (for V/Oct calibration) and the other is digital for clock testing/calibration (frequency/tempo measurement; and pulse width).

Maybe this might be useful to those of you building DIY modules and wanting a quick test/debugging setup less cumbersome than signal generators or your modular setup?

It won’t go farther than Board+programmed MCU+Mouser BOM with very minimal assistance provided (no building instructions etc). This might be useful to hardcore DIYers only anyway!

i will never use it and i’m too lazy to take it to the studio to test everything. if there should be something wrong (unlikely, i’m a solder hero, and it has never been powered on) it’s up to you to find a bad joint ;)
the psu socket hasn’t been soldered since it has the 3 battery holders underneath it. but i can put the socket on the board too if needed.

if i have to test it first the price will certainly move into the up+running region but i might as well do it. of course i have confidence in my soldering, i just want to let them go, so if anyone dares to take the ‘risk’ and take a finished device for the price less than the parts, now is the time.

Hallo Mutable Instruments and User

I would like to formally express my thanks to the Olivier Gillert and his Shruthi-Team.

One year ago I started to develop my Stereo Synthesizer “Wave 1”. At the beginning of the 90s i want building a digital synthesizer.
My first project was a 8Bit soundsampler from DOEPFER Musikelektronik GmbH in germany. My next step was a digital
synthesizer on the basis of a digital sound chip SAM9203 from dream company. But I could not finish the project, because
my development tools was not not professional enough.

Now I have found many good ideas and tools for the construction of a synthesizer on the internet. Great help was the hardware
of opichenettes shruthi-synthesizers. My “WAVE 1” Synth is a Stereo-Version of an Hybrid-Synthesizer and have two analog Filtes (SSM2044) and
VCA-Chips (SSM2164). For sound editing is a small built-in touch-scree.

On yotube you can watch and listen to my first sound test. Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwUUhr8rD48

I will disassemble the Ambika later on and see if I can’t trace the issue with my multimeter, but from the way the filters sound, one of the SVF cards is lacking a proper low pass filter (it actually kind of sounds like the high pass filter is acting like a low pass filter).

Please listen to https://soundcloud.com/portervance/ambika-svf-filter-issue

The first 3 samples are SVF card #1, opening up the LP, BP, and HP filters then bringing them back down to 0. The second 3 samples are SVF card #2 (the one that has issues) doing the same order of filters. The last 2 samples are just a comparison of SVF #1 LP filter and SVF #2 LP filter. What’s going on here?

I think it is about as good a match for a Shruthi as there is on this world, surely equally great with any other Synths though as well. Build went well, and if you build one, I’m sure yours will go well too so long as you remember that LCD screens should face toward you and not toward inside of the case, and solder your header accordingly… All’s well that ends well ;)

hey MI community. i finally just finished building my first kit having ordered it near the beginning of the year. everything seemed to be fine as i near finished the assembly, the LEDs all seem to be working and switches/encoder fully functional. but when i went to plug it into my mixer before soldering the screen into place i ran into a problem. hopefully its something small, but i plug in a midi cable, an audio cable then put the power supply in i get a loud hum. i cant seem to make any noise myself besides this humming constantly coming out of it. i have the spacers in so nothing should be touching inside. dont want to touch anything else untill i figure out why its making this noise. thanks for your help MI! hopefully can figure it out soon

Can’t seem to find a place in america to get the “3.5mm Jack, PCB mount, vertical”, anyone know of any place to get some, or equivalent? Also, the “DPDT switch, PCB mount” (SW7, SW8), anyone know of something from mouser that will work for that?

I got the boards and the case, very nice! However, some mailman wank (I assume) put something very heavy on the boards, smashed the IC’s and warped the boards, but I was able to straighten the pins (took a while though). The warped boards are going to be fine, was just a little harder to get the screws to line up. Any help would be great! Love this stuff…

Hello,

I’am a glad Anushri user but face a problem with the sync to midi clock. I would like to use the arpeggiator and the drum sequencer in sync with my other machines using midi clock at 24 ppqn.

I tried sending midi clock and start/stop messages from my DAW and also from an Electribe MX and have always the result that the sequencer of Anushri is running with the same speed but there is a noticable delay between the two. It’s not half a second but big enough to destroy the groove and to hear the timing difference.

Does some here has similar issues or could it be that I misconfigured something?

I’ve noticed something with my Ambika when playing certain patches. At first I thought I was hearing things or some of my other gear was possibly creating background noise, but when I play very bassy sounding patches on the Ambika I will sometimes get these really faint blips/chirp sounds at the end of a note. I’m pretty sure the issue is related to the filter parameters, I can tweak the filter and filter out the chirp, but I’m wondering if this is a typical issue or if this is a problem related to my build (and if it is easily fixable)

Here is a small demo using the Slap patch. The chirps are very faint but they are there. https://soundcloud.com/portervance/ambika-filter-chirp

I haven’t experienced this issue with my other gear before so that’s why I ask.

Hello all,
I finished my Anushri build yesterday. Everything, more or less works. I have a little bit of troubleshooting to do, but I haven’t started that process yet so I’ll not post until I’ve done some due diligence.
One thing I’ve noticed so far that seems odd and a bit disappointing: when actively transposing a playing sequence via midi, the sequence transposes incorrectly. Instead of using the root note to transpose the sequence, it seems to be transposing it two semitones higher than the root note as played on a synth used as the midi master. The result is a sequence that is pretty dissonant from the sustained note on the master synth. Haven’t tested if this behavior is mirrored via CV (not even sure if CV will transpose a sequence). Regular notes and the arpeggiator via midi are right on the money, so I don’t think it’s a tuning issue or settings issue.
I haven’t seen any other reports of this behavior, so I’m wondering if this is a known firmware issue.
BTW: here’s a pic of my build with my personalized case….

Just finished my 4 pole mission board and did the test recommended. I checked for shorts between points on the ic sockets and found a few. Between the green point on ic 1 and all the red points on the other ic are shorting.
Also seems to be shorts between some of the blue and green points Dont know what i have done wrong. Was extremely careful with the build

This might be a stupid question, I have had a quick search through previous posts, but is it supposed to sound like this? Im having trouble tuning it and it doesn’t really sound much like a sine wave to me.
Finished my shruthi-1 quite a few months ago and meant to check that this was alright but got distracted with trying to build a x0xb0x then that didn’t work so gave up on diy audio for a bit.

Hi,

1) I’d like to sell one of my Shruthis with the SSM2044 filter.

Cosmetically it looks almost new and I’ve performed a little mod according to a hint by fcd72. As you can see I’ve installed some LEDs in each corner which light up continiously and that can be controlled via the CV in the modulation menu. I can remove them if you wish.
I can add a power supply if you need one.

Shipping costs 5€ to Germany and 10€ to every place in Europe. America does cost 15€ accroding to the DHL postage calculator.

So if I have a pattern going in sequencer or I am using the drum app with ambika, I experience one of the voices just sustaining and persisting after I stop the pattern. I can note nuke of course but its a pain in the biscuits when I’m trying to jam. It works fine most of the time but sometimes when I’m changing midi channels or changing notes of the drum sounds it will happen. Do you think it’s just an overload of midi data?
