I think this might be the first completed DIY MidiALF, or at least the first I know of that Pete from Midisizer didn’t build himself. I think it is about as good a match for a Shruthi as there is on this world, surely equally great with any other Synths though as well. Build went well, and if you build one, I’m sure yours will go well too so long as you remember that LCD screens should face toward you and not toward inside of the case, and solder your header accordingly… All’s well that ends well ;)

As you know I design websites from time to time, though I’d really like to get out of this business…
With a friend I’ve been cooking up a gear-related deals website, which is mainly focusing on cameras and lenses for now… but I’d really like it to feature more music related stuff. My partner does not believe it will generate enough traffic tough…

Now I’d need volunteers for two things:

first, general testing, things that don’t work, the usual

second, if enough people post deals about music stuff, I can convince my partner to open a dedicated music gear section. So help me convince him and post some music related deals (in the “other” section)! I think the world needs a website where you can find deals about music gear!

Feel free to post DIY deals as well… actually a components section would be really handy too, don’t you think?

The website is this one: http://www.dealsrunner.com/

Maybe I can find some little things to give to the volunteers in exchange, I’m thinking of something…

Hey guys !
So it’s my turn to ask for your bottomless knowledge…
I just finished building my Anushri (rev C, kit from the february run), the built went very well, great PCB, great build instruction, great kit :)
But I have a weird, poor distorted sound coming out of the synth and a hum coming out of the drum part. It seems that all the software part works great though. (every knob/button/leds responding as they should)

Here are recordings from the beast:
http://soundcloud.com/clemdu/sets/anushri-troubleshooting-audio/s-L5kRQ

I also made a small video of an oscilloscope (just a free plugin), with the sawtooth and square. The waves don’t seems “stable”.
https://vimeo.com/66739525

All thoses recordings were made with the following settings:
FM = 0
PW = center
VCO mod / PW mod = center
sub level = 0
sync = off
cutoff = max
res = 0
Env mod / LFO mod = 0
Filter mode = LPF
Fuzz = off
Volume = Full

And finally, here are some good pics of the boards:
Main board, top:
Main board, bottom:
Control board, top:
Control board, bottom:

I really hope it’s not much, but I quite feel clueless right now :)
Thanks for your time !

[EDIT: following the formatting tips. I looked for those before (searching on the forum, over the internet…) with no luck, maybe a post-it would be nice :) By the way, and off topic: how can I embed a soundcloud player, a vimeo player or even a simple hyperlink ? Thanks !]

I have done much research and reading on a decent hardware reverb, but fr@nkly, I don’t trust most gearslutz opinions. What do you guys use or recommend? Breaking the bank isn’t in my plans, so please give me reasonable options not just your dream machine. :)
Thanks Shruthizens

This was published today. I bought a copy and initial impressions are very positive. Plenty of clear explanations and diagrams for a relative newbie like myself, without it degenerating into the obvious (Except, strangely, there’s a whole chapter on Audacity, which seems redundant).
It does go into quite some detail, for example an appendix dedicated to LM13700.

I’ve got a few smallish projects on the go which I need to put into cases. A WSG from MFOS, a small power amp which is to be put together, and I’m also considering making a couple of things in the future, something like a dub siren box and also been thinking about some euro rack sized modules made from the MFOS circuits for VCOs LFOs etc (a bit of a dream to build a modular one part at a time).
I know that people on this forum are making some great looking projects with metal panels. Are people getting the panels cut and finished at a particular company? I remember Schieffer coming up in a discussion once.
What sort of costs are involved in one off runs? For say a panel around 20 x 15cm, or Euro modular size?
